As 2024 draws to a close, it’s the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate what has been an extraordinary year at ITN Business.

From the stories that pushed boundaries to the moments that inspired and informed, this year has been packed with creativity, collaboration, and achievements we’re proud to share.

We’ve produced many hours of film content, hosted inspiring panel events, crafted eye-opening podcasts, filmed from all over the globe, and published insightful articles on everything from forensic analytics to children’s eye health. None of it would have been possible without the incredible talent and dedication of our team, partners, storytellers, film crews, and the many brilliant individuals we’ve worked with along the way.

To wrap up the year, we asked members of our production team to look back and share the moments that made 2024 special — whether for their creativity, impact, or the sheer joy of telling a great story. Read on to discover the highlights that defined our year and the stories that stuck with us the most.

Transformational Travel in Thailand

For producer Saffa Amer, a standout moment came from producing the Tourism Authority of Thailand film for our 2024 programme, Transformational Travel. The project was not only an incredible experience but also thought-provoking and inspiring, shedding light on the importance of sustainable tourism.

“Set against the stunning backdrop of Khao Lak, the film explored how tourism is a cornerstone of Thailand’s economy while emphasising the growing need for travel to be more conscious and respectful. It underscored a powerful message — the sustainability of travel and tourism hinges on protecting the very planet that makes these experiences possible,” Saffa shared.

“For me, it served as a poignant reminder to consider the environmental impact when planning that next holiday.”

A historic energy milestone

Senior Producer Alex Annett had the privilege of filming a historic moment for the National Energy System Operator. On the final day that Britain used coal to generate electricity, Alex and the team were on-site at the National Grid Control Centre to capture a pivotal moment in energy history.

“We were lucky enough to be filming for the National Energy System Operator on the very last day that Britain used coal to generate electricity,” Alex explains. “We spent the day at the National Grid Control Centre where our camera operator Aaron filmed the exact moment when the proportion of electricity generated by coal in Britain ticked down to 0%, a seminal moment in our journey to net zero.”

Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

As winter sets in — bringing with it the surge of colds, flu, and other bugs — Executive Producer Dawn White takes a moment to reflect on her impactful experience working on the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) programme. This eye-opening project tackled one of today’s most pressing health issues, with insights that left a lasting impression on Dawn and the team.

“As the season of mince pies, bubbly, and festive feasts rolls in, it also brings along less welcome guests: winter sniffles, flu, common colds, and a medley of other respiratory nuisances. On this theme, one standout moment for me this year came from our programme on AMR.

“We had the incredible opportunity to visit Professor Dame Sally Davies at Cambridge’s Trinity College, where she serves as Master. Dame Sally shared invaluable insights into the growing threat of AMR, but one piece of advice struck me as especially practical.

Our interview with Dame Sally Davies, which featured as part of our programme, Defending our Health: Unravelling Antimicrobial Resistance.

“She explained a simple way to gauge whether antibiotics might be necessary: if your throat is sore but only red, it’s likely viral, and antibiotics won’t help. However, if your throat shows exudate — a white or yellow substance resembling pus — it’s more likely bacterial, and antibiotics may be required.

“This straightforward tip underscores the importance of understanding when antibiotics are appropriate, a small yet crucial step in combating antimicrobial resistance.”

Showcasing innovation and fighting misinformation

For producer Rhea Brooks, one of the standout moments of 2024 was stepping out on the streets of Europe to capture public opinions.

“A personal highlight for me was filming in Milan and Prague, gathering vox pops surrounding European elections. These were edited into short pieces of content to support Google‘s Fighting Misinformation Online Summit.

Our video series served to amplify the voices and concerns of EU citizens and content creators from across the continent, highlighting critical issues surrounding elections and the spread of misinformation.

“I also really enjoyed interviewing the Chief Constable of Police Cumbria to find out more about the crucial relationship between the police and the private sector to drive innovation and keep ahead of criminal activity in the modern, connected world.”

Supercars and logistics

Executive Producer Emily Kidner highlighted a memorable moment of her year: working on a fascinating logistics story for Boomerang Carnets, a company dedicated to simplifying international trade and temporary importation processes.

“My personal highlight this year was working with Boomerang Carnets on the Logistics content series. With changing regulations in importing and exporting goods, we explored how documentation is critical for moving everything from orchestras’ instruments to livestock. But this time, it was supercars,” she explains.

Our film for Boomerang Carnets highlighted the complexities of global trade, post Brexit. The film was featured as part of our Transforming Logistics: Precision and Purpose programme in 2024.

Highlighting workplace wellbeing

Throughout 2024, the breadth of industries and organisations we’ve partnered with has been truly remarkable. From healthcare to finance and beyond, each project has highlighted the essential work happening across sectors, often behind the scenes. Executive Producer Laura Wilson shares her thoughts:

“We work with a real cross-section of sectors throughout the year, and it’s a privilege hearing about those industries through the thought-leaders we interviewed.  From Genetic Alliance UK to Innovate Finance, from Made Smarter to Alzheimer’s UK — it was insightful and heartening to hear the positive work that is quietly going on behind the scenes.

“One thought leadership interview that stood out for me this year was with Mental Health UK discussing workplace culture and the rise of burnout, where their Director of National Programmes, Deidre Bowen shared her experience of burnout and the impact it had on her,” Laura recalled.

The interview, filmed as part of our programme, The Future of Work: People, Culture, Tech, shed light on the importance of addressing mental health in the workplace, offering valuable insights for organisations everywhere.

From exploring emerging trends in business to shining a light on the people and organisations driving meaningful change, we’re ready to push boundaries even further. Here’s to another year of impactful storytelling, and uncovering the voices and ideas that shape our world. Bring on 2025!
