BT has a long-standing partnership with the police, focusing on creating innovative solutions that support the police in achieving their strategic objectives. Reliable, trusted, and secure connectivity is essential for building and connecting new technologies and digital tools, which are vital for police operations and public safety.
Virtually every crime has a digital element, often involving vast amounts of complex data. Forensic Analytics' software allows police forces to analyse this increasing volume of data faster than ever before, improving conviction rates whilst also saving police time, resources, and ultimately lives.
The UK housing boom that began in the 1960s led to many housing estates being built quickly without much planning for security. The police ‘Secured by Design’ initiative, incorporates crime prevention techniques to improve community safety, deter crime, and enhance well-being into new builds.
SpanSet supports the police as a manufacturer of height safety, lifting and load control equipment. The company, which has been operating for over 55 years in the UK, has developed a training division to significantly enhance the safety of its clients. Its training academy gives contractors, industrial rescue teams, and the police the skills they need to operate safely.
Chief Constable Rob Carden has spent over 30 years in the line of duty and says his officers in Cumbria are now more reliant on data analysts and secure internet infrastructure than ever before to fight and prevent crime. He shares the importance of working with the private sector to achieve Police Strategy pillars, achieving and maintaining citizen safety and trust, and centralising data to create a single source of truth.
Donna Jones was the Chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners from 2023 to 2024. Her experience spans a role as Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and a 16-year background as a magistrate. She shares what experience from the law enforcement sector she brought to her role at the APCC, and how she envisions the APCC’s role developing going forward.

The new Chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, Emily Spurrell took over from Donna Jones in September 2024. Shortly after she was elected, she shared her aims to enhance community safety, and improve victim support with a particular focus on violence against women and girls.

Established in 2015, the National Police Chiefs’ Council brings together police chiefs across the United Kingdom. The NPCC’s current chair, Chief Constable Gavin Stephens shared the importance of working collaboratively to address policing challenges and to improve public safety, the importance of restoring public trust and confidence, and how technology and innovation is improving productivity within policing.
