Engineering is everywhere – from agriculture to aerospace, from chemistry to construction, the profession makes up nearly a fifth of the UK workforce. Skilled engineers are also a cornerstone of our economy, fundamental to solving problems of today and tomorrow, and to achieving our net zero commitments. However, we are facing a shortage, driven by a combination of factors including an aging workforce and a general misunderstanding of the variety of compelling career options and opportunities within the sector.

ITN Business is launching Engineering: Today, Tomorrow & Beyond, a digital news-style programme for National Engineering Day in November 2024. Presented by Dr Shini Somara, the programme aims to:

  • Showcase positive work in action across the spectrum of engineering specialties
  • Raise awareness of the various possibilities in engineering careers
  • Reinforce how critical the engineering profession is to achieving our sustainability goals

The programme will feature thought-provoking thought leader interviews from the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), with more to be announced soon. Alongside this the programme will have engaging reporter-led content and powerful case studies, from engineering businesses and organisations driving forward progress and serving the engineering sector. The programme will be hosted on the ITN Business Hub, and will be promoted across digital channels alongside a campaign with The New Scientist.

There are commercial opportunities for leading organisations to be featured in the programme and spearhead their own news item. If your organisation wants to share what you stand for and be part of this important conversation, please contact our ITN Business Programming Directors, Isabella Sharp or James Salver.
