From Thailand’s mangroves to the bustling cities of New York and Houston, to Zambia and the sandy beaches of the Seychelles, we’ve taken our passion for storytelling to some of the world’s most captivating locations in the past year.

Over the course of just one month, we filmed in over five continents, at nine international destinations – shooting in New York City, Houston, the Seychelles, Thailand, the Canary Islands, Zambia, Gibraltar, Toronto and the Orkney Islands.

Here are some snapshots of our work in action…

New York City and Houston

During the second week of August our US and UK-based Senior Producer, Shannon Fairchild, filmed for a US-based energy client at two (very hot!) locations in Houston, and a third in lower Manhattan.

Filming from the One World Trade Centre in New York City.

The multi-day shoot involved a series of executive interviews and the capture of GVs (general views) using several cameras, a hand-held gimbal, and a drone for aerial filming.

Showcasing the ‘Sustainable Seychelles’ initiative

Our crew travelled to the stunning Seychelles to follow the Takamaka Distillery and the Constance Ephelia Resort to learn more about the inspiring work being done to encourage sustainable tourism.

Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, has become a global leader in sustainability and conservation initiatives.
Born from a deep commitment to safeguard the pristine beauty and cultural heritage of the Seychelles archipelago, their mission extends beyond preservation, to fostering the flourishing of these treasures for future generations.

Thailand

The ITN Business crew filmed for the Tourism Authority of Thailand in August to showcase their efforts in promoting low-carbon travel packages. We visited Khao Lak to explore how one of their partners, TEATA, is actively encouraging eco-friendly tourism while preserving their environment and community.

Thailand’s mangroves are a vital part of the country’s coastal ecosystem and home to a diverse range of species.

The Canary Islands

Our time in the beautiful island of Tenerife saw us exploring the stories of Canary Islands Tourism Board, and how they’re committed to a sustainable approach when it comes to tourism. They have developed a climate action plan to address the challenges posed by climate change.

Gibraltar

The Gibraltar Port Authority is a key partner in the maritime industry’s shift to sustainability.
It has created the right infrastructure and conditions for change, making it an attractive place to do business. It has three bunker barges which allow passing vessels to refuel without having to berth in the port. To support the maritime industry on its journey to a more sustainable future, it offers both traditional and newer green fuels.

Orkney

For our upcoming shipping programme, our team headed up to Orkney, off the north coast of Scotland, where the small island community is celebrating 50 years of marine monitoring.

The Marine Environmental Unit based at Orkney Harbours has been dedicated to surveying the local waters, investigating topics such as the introduction of non-native species, impacts of pollution, and climate change.

Zambia

ITN Business filmed at Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital and at a local farmer field school to discuss ICARS’ (International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions) work in low-to-middle income countries.

Their aim is to raise awareness and knowledge of antimicrobial resistance among practitioners and local communities, and improve optimisation of antimicrobial use.

Toronto, Canada

ITN Business visited Borealis, The Bank of Canada’s AI research institute in Toronto. We spoke with the team there about how AI has the potential to shape the future of our finances, and the importance of ensuring this is spearheaded responsibly.

This film will feature in our upcoming AI & Big Data: Empowering Tomorrow programme.

Treading lightly on the planet

Where possible, we draw on local film crews for international shoots, utilising our extensive network of overseas talent. This not only helps us reduce our carbon footprint, but also adds depth, diversity and cultural authenticity to the programmes we produce.

Our storytellers know it’s crucial to approach international storytelling with cultural sensitivity and a commitment to amplifying, rather than overshadowing, the voices of those whose stories we tell.

The power of international storytelling

International storytelling is more than capturing events or narratives from different parts of the world; it’s about giving voice to diverse experiences and perspectives that might otherwise go unheard. Whether it’s a story of resilience from a remote community or a narrative of innovation from a global metropolis, these stories highlight common human experiences and values.

For businesses, the power of telling global stories is in its ability to reach and resonate with a much wider audience, build more inclusive brands, and foster a deeper connection with consumers and audiences.
