For patients who require kidney dialysis, the traditional surgical procedure used for dialysis access can often lead to the development of undesirable aneurysmal vessels and scars. However, a new alternative has emerged – minimally invasive technology that provides the patient with an additional dialysis access option, while also addressing aesthetic concerns. This innovation represents the first significant advancement in dialysis access in over 50 years.
HD Vascular Access is often cited as being a primary determinant of quality of dialysis and of patient quality of life. With access required over 300 times a year, patients often experience pain and discomfort. B. Braun's patient-centric approach introduces innovative technology, easing discomfort during access procedures and during Hemodialysis, with the aim of enhancing treatment outcomes and the patient’s experience.
Maddy, a familiar face in the kidney community, who has inspired many people living with kidney disease, spoke to Sharon about her journey and how home dialysis has changed her life.

National Kidney Federation (NKF) is the only national kidney charity run by kidney patients for the benefit of kidney patients. It is committed to improving the health and quality of life of people living with kidney disease and those at risk. The NKF works tirelessly to persuade the government, the Department of Health, NHS Blood and Transplant, and the NHS to provide better treatment and service for the 68,000 kidney patients suffering end-stage renal failure, and the three million people identified as having early-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD).
