On a mission to transform victim support: Our interview with APCC Chair Emily Spurrell
As part of our new programme, Policing for a Safer Tomorrow, we had the privilege of speaking with Emily Spurrell, the newly appointed Chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners.
With a clear vision for tackling community safety, Emily is on a mission to transform victim support and prioritise the fight against violence towards women and girls. Here’s what she had to say about her hopes and plans for creating safer, more resilient communities.

ITN Business interviewed Emily as part of our programme Policing for a Safer Tomorrow.
“We have to look at this as a bigger societal issue. We have to look at the culture, the misogyny, the way that things play out in society, where it’s very easy to demonise women, and that women get targeted because of that. So we have to invest in things like education; talk to young boys, talk to young girls; talk to them about what is appropriate to share online; talk about the language that we use; jokes that are and aren’t appropriate… we have to look at this as a real cultural piece.”
