“Arthritis is not just an inevitable part of growing older, nor is it simply wear and tear,” explains Deborah Alsina, Chief Executive of Versus Arthritis, in her interview with Sangeeta Kandola. In fact, there are a number of different types of arthritis that affect people of all ages — even babies and toddlers. 

As part of ITN Business’ news-style programme, Joint Health, Deborah Alsina unpacks a few common misconceptions and explores the challenges surrounding arthritis, in its various forms: including osteoarthritis, inflammatory-related arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and gout.

Despite arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions being one of the main causes of disability in the UK, less than 4% of research funding currently goes into these conditions. The need for greater awareness is something Versus Arthritis works tirelessly to campaign for, alongside greater investment, funding and research.
